I have lots of tiny knot holes in part of my floor where we had to have flooring laid to match the other half of the room when we took down a wall.

I used a elmers brand hard drying wood filler in natural color let dry 8hrs then sanded fine grit then used a black wood touch up pen to color onto the dried filler.

You have two strong options.
Sanding is risky because there s a good chance you ll create a noticeable divot to the outside of your filled knot.
Hickory floors with character knots.
The solution is to fill the wood knots and voids with epoxy.
One will make knot holes disappear the other will highlight the knot while keeping it safely sealed.
You wouldn t want to add wood putty because it wouldn t retain the look of the knots.
I think i d layer it in and not fill it up all at once though.
It s important to choose a color that matches the color of the stained and finished flooring because latex filler doesn t accept stain itself.
The new stuff just isn t as tight as the older.
The main disadvantage of latex prefinished wood floor filler is that it shrinks and cracks over time so it s not a good option for filling large cracks gaps or knot holes.
It will take a bit of time to dry but if you like the look of the hole go for it.
Wood flour cement or epoxy.
This matched the hole knot perfectly and is no longer jagged edge that socks swiffer would get caught on.
You could also use a chisel but a plane is better.
Occasionally you will get a piece of gorgeous wood that has voids or knots in it.
This is common for these larger holes and voids.
